About the Library

The Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies (COAPS) James J. O'Brien Library is named in honor of Dr. James J. O'Brien, COAPS founder and Emeritus Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor of Meteorology and Oceanography, for his dedication to research and education. The library contains over 1,000 books and an extensive collection of journals, newsletters, maps, reports, and reprints relevant to meteorology and oceanography. The library aims to provide an effective and properly managed information resource for the teaching, learning and research needs of all members of COAPS and thereafter the wider community, and will:

Circulation Policy

Anyone is welcome to browse through the online library catalog and visit the library in-person; however, checkout is limited to COAPS students and employees.

COAPS students and employees may borrow items for up to 8 weeks, and must return all items to the library by the end of each semester. If a library patron requests an item that another patron is currently borrowing, the patron who has the item will be asked to return the item to the library within 1 week. Patrons will be billed for the repair or replacement cost of damaged or lost items.

Hours & Contact Information

The library is located in Room 271 of Research Building A and is open continuously to COAPS employees and students. Non-COAPS patrons should email librarian@coaps.fsu.edu to schedule visits.
